opal glass
opal glass is a style of decorative glass made in France from 1800 to 1890, but reached its peak of popularity during the reign of Napoleon III in 1850 and 1860. The glass is opaque or slightly translucent, and can appear white or bright colors in shades of green, blue, pink, lavender, yellow and black. The glass has a high lead levels, defined as "semi-glass" or semi-crystal. The main influences of this style of glass have was 16th century Venetian glass of milk, white and glass product in the 18 th century English in Bristol.
Many pieces were glass of milk products, including vases, bowls, cups, cut, decanters, perfume bottles, boxes, clocks and other equipment. The popularity of opal glass began in the reign of Napoleon. The cities involved in the production, including Le Creusot, Baccarat and St. Louis, Runion, and various places in England.
The frosted glass is hand blown and has a rough or polished pontil on the bottom. There are no seams and no engraving machine. Many parts opal glass decorated with gold. Some flowers and birds painted by hand. Several carriers in gilded bronze, wheels, hinges or holders. Real glass of milk was produced only in France. In the 1900s Italy has produced a boat similar to real opal.
Most Opal is not a mark or signature.
Vallerysthal Portieux a lot of robin's egg blue glass called opalescent. This came later and much larger and not so rare or valuable.
The two best references to the French opaline opals are Christine and Franaise Vincendeau nineteenth Lpaline century by Yolande Amic. Both are in French.
